Motorcycles are mechanical and exposed, which means almost every part of them is an edge. Engine fins, spoked wheels, exhaust runs and frame tubes all trace cleanly, and the result has far more detail than most vehicle line art. It works on a showroom shot, a garage build in progress, or a bike parked at the side of a road.

  • A record of a restoration project, before and after
  • Prints for a club run or a rally
  • Workshop wall art for a garage or dealership
  • A colouring page for a child who loves a parent's bike

Common questions

What angle photographs best?

A three-quarter view from the front shows the engine, the tank and the front wheel at once, and gives the richest line art. A flat side-on shot works too and produces a cleaner, more poster-like page.

Will the engine detail come through?

Yes, and it is usually the best part of the page. Cylinder fins, cables and exhaust headers all trace as separate lines, which is why motorcycle pages tend to suit adults more than young children.

Does it work on a bike being ridden?

Yes if the shot is sharp. A static bike gives more detail, because a riding shot usually has motion blur in the wheels.

Can I do a scooter or a moped?

Yes. Anything on two wheels works, including scooters, mopeds, trials bikes and e-bikes.
