Boats sit somewhere between vehicles and architecture, and they trace beautifully. Rigging becomes a web of fine lines, planking and portholes become repeated shapes, and a harbour full of masts turns into a genuinely absorbing adult page. It works on a dinghy, a narrowboat, a fishing trawler or a moored yacht.

  • A gift for an owner, from a photo of their own boat
  • A keepsake from a sailing holiday
  • Activity sheets for a sailing club's junior section
  • Prints for a marina, harbour cafe or chandlery
  • A page of a canal boat for a narrowboat holiday memento

Common questions

Does rigging come out well?

It comes out very well. Shrouds, halyards and stays trace as fine lines and give a sailing page much of its character. If you want a simpler page for a child, photograph the boat with the mast out of frame.

Will reflections in the water be traced?

Yes, if they are defined. Still water gives a mirrored outline below the hull, which many people like. Choppy water traces as busy texture, so a calm morning gives a cleaner page.

Can I do a whole harbour?

You can, and it makes a detailed adult page. For a page a child will colour, a single boat filling the frame works far better.

Does it work on a boat under sail?

Yes, as long as the photo is sharp. A boat heeled over under full sail makes one of the most striking pages this produces.
